an unbelievable gift I've been wanting to tell you about!

You won’t believe this! Many of you know that yesterday was my birthday, and thanks for all of the kind wishes. One of my friends came over and brought me the most amazing gift I have been so excited to tell everyone.

It is the entire first edition set, 54 volume collection of Great Works of the Western World!

Can you believe that? She found them at an antique store for 32 bucks! Also unbelievable. They don’t even look like they have ever been read. The spines are all stiff and the pages are perfect.

I wasn’t able to post yesterday and I thought about staying up late, but I was tired. I’ve been dieing to tell everyone.

wow what an amazing gift!! that's a friend to treasure, one who can hunt for good bargains and knows you well enough to pick just the right bargain for you!

happy birthday and congrats again on the awesome gift
Then we sat on the edge of the earth, with our feet dangling over the side, and marvelled that we had found each other.

That is indeed wonderful! But what might make it even more special, if possible, imagine her standing there in that bookstore, coming upon that set and your name lit up in her mind!

Wow, my Dad has had those on a huge bookcase (and I believe he's read all of them) for as long as I can remember...

I believe that the books are basically all the great works up to like freud... Philosophy, History, Literature, and Math/Science... So it's a great start for the person who wants to read/know everything

    Oh, Happy Birthday!

Wow, congrats! My mother has a collection of great works (about 40) called the Modern Library, which I often steal from. It gives you sort of a complete feeling to know a whole collection of great lit is at your dispense
I declare after all there is no enjoyment like reading! How much sooner one tires of anything than of a book! When I have a house of my own, I shall be miserable if I have not an excellent library.
