I reall do adore Dickinson's work; but the meanings often escape my grasp! This poem in paticular confuses me:

-----------------------------------------------

Tho' I get home how late - how late -
So I get home - twill compensate -
Better will be the Ecstasy
That they ahve doen expecting me-
When Night - descending - dumb - and dark -
They hear my unexpected knock -
Transporting must that moment be -
Brewed from decades of Agony!

To think just how the fire will burn -
Just how long-cheated eyes will turn -
To wonder what myself will say
And what itself will say to me -
Beguiles the Centuries of way!

------------------------------------------

I can point of some literary techniques (the alliteartion 'd' = knocking).

But what does it all mean?

Is this about betraying another person? Or ones own betrayal, aganist ones soul, "the fire will burn"? Is it about returning to God "home"?

It's so ambigous!

And some extra literary techniques would be nice too. Also, the more interpretions the better!
