    Exclamation Eye-opener

    EYE-OPENER

    Dark and dreadful was the night. I lay awake
    for fear nightmares would come calling again.
    The silence spoke volumes to my troubled brain.
    Will it never end?

    I rose and walked to the window hoping that
    the cold night air would do me good. It did not.
    Not a breath of wind stirred the curtain. No moon.
    The night was pitch-black.

    I got dressed and went out into the night air,
    wandering aimlessly along the dark streets;
    searching, seeking… something. What, I did not know.
    No one ever does.

    At the park, I sat on a bench in silence,
    just thinking. From far away I heard a sound,
    faint, but clear: A clock striking the hour of twelve.
    Midnight and alone.

    It may have been just a dream, but people passed;
    an enormous crowd. They were specters, every one.
    “The night is ours, leave us be!” they cried loudly.
    I ran home very fast!

    My room is cheerless; the night is still very black.
    Loneliness and fear are constantly with me.
    But I look out the window into the dark;
    I am not dead yet…

    You're a true night-wanderer, Pen.

    Very enjoyable! You seem to have something very Poe-esque going on, and it works wonderfully, encapsulating both movement in and detachment from society.
    "I should only believe in a God that would know how to dance. And when I saw my devil, I found him serious, thorough, profound, solemn: he was the spirit of gravity- through him all things fall. Not by wrath, but by laughter, do we slay. Come, let us slay the spirit of gravity!" - Nietzsche

    I like the strength which this poem speaks: "not dead yet" Thank you for sharing!

    This is chilling, Pendragon, and good, very good. It frightens me.
    I'm in love with The Vinegar Man and Mr. Tanner, but be careful, it could just as easily be you.

    Did you ever read "I Am Acquainted with the Night" ? For some reason,this one reminded me of that poem by Frost, esp. where the speaker says that he walked down to the end of town and back.
