    Clearing up: Aye or nay?

Do you clear the table before you leave at a cafe or similar place? I.e., take your rubbish to the bins available, dirty cups and plates back to the counter?

Or do you think it is the waiters' and waitresses' job as they are clearly paid to do just that?

I always take my rubbish to the cans and dishes to the proper place if the facilities are provided for that. I know it's a good economy, believe it or not. Good point.

one cafe I sometimes go to ask their customers to clear the table so I do it there but at the cafe I go to almost daily I don't ..

I clean up everywhere I go. I can't stand a messy table, and it isn't unheard of for me to grab other people's garbage on the way out too if they have left it sitting there.

Even in a more formal restaurant we stack the plates for the service staff!

Although good service will prevent the need for you to do anything.....

If it's table service, generally not. Most times, the service staff have cleared the dishes before the check comes.

If it's counter service, then it's usually expected to take care of your own trash.
