    Bugger, is all copyrighted!

Got myself a medium-sized cup of Joe, came in, sat down, got already to read the Great Gatsby. Waah, waah ERROR – "you must be destroyed".

I guess one of the rich grandchildren was smart enough to renew the copyright!

Ничего нет лучше для исправления, как прежнее с раскаянием вспомнить.

The Great Gatsby should have gone into public domain in 2010. Maybe the edition had notes or something, which were copyrighted.

Edit: Sorry, it was renewed, so it was extended to 95 years from publication. 2020-2021

You can find it on Australian or Canadian sites though, where it is in public domain.

Come to Canada (or Australia) and it is already in the public domain. Based on USA copyright law that I do not understand, it is not yet in the public domain in USA.

    EDIT:

upon looking into it, Gatsby is under copyright until 2021.

It would have expired in 2010, but it's possible under US law to extend a copyright to 95 years from publication (instead of 70 after death of the author) after the death of the author if it is done within 25 years of the original publication.

Gutenberg Australia has it here: http://gutenberg.net.au/plusfifty-a-m.html#fitzgerald

However, anyone not living in Australia would be very naughty to actually get it from there, so don't.
